Remembering SPC Stephan Lee Mace: Warrior & Hero
The mission of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is to help the healing process attendant with being a disabled military service member, or veteran. To that end, we rely on the contributions generously provided by our fellow Americans. When the Family of SPC Stephan Mace contacted us about forwarding donations to PHWFF, in Stephan’s name, we were simultaneously humbled by the Family’s gesture, and sobered by the knowledge that for every disabled veteran, new and old, that we help with our program, there are servicemembers like Stephan who will never hold a fly rod in their hand again. His was the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and our ideals.
Stephan, a member of 3rd Squadron, 61st Calvary Regiment, was one of 8 American soldiers killed in early October, as they defended their position in a remote area of Afghanistan. He was a 21-year-old dedicated soldier, from Purcellville, Virginia, true to his country, who willingly placed himself in harm’s way for all of us. PHWFF is honored that his Family has chosen our organization to be the recipient of donations made in Stephan’s name, and memory. We pledge to continue our efforts to help those who bear the scars, visible and invisible, in service to our Country.
