Spring Ridge Club 2008

Spring Ridge Club

Aug 27-28, 2008

The Spring Ridge Club hosted nine wounded veterans of Project Healing Waters on 27 and 28 August. This was the fourth time that Donnie Beaver and the Club have hosted our PHW warriors at Spruce Creek.

Soldiers from Walter Reed, Fort Belvoir, and one from Maine were treated to lunch on arrival on Monday. As soon as lunch was over, each soldier was assigned their own professional guide and departed to fish their section of dedicated club waters for the afternoon. Most of the warriors came back with some good fish stories including pictures for proof. After a cookout dinner, one of Pennsylvania’s most well known fisherman, Joe Humphries, put on one of his famous casting demonstrations for everyone. During both days, Joe moved around assisting on the steam and visiting with the veterans.

After a night sleeping at the clubs facilities and an early morning breakfast, a fresh lineup of soldiers and guides were off for a second shot at some of the biggest trout most people have ever seen. Over the two day event everyone caught fish, most caught several, and probably including the biggest they had ever caught.

A wonderful time was had by all. The soldiers all expressed their appreciation to the club, the guides, and the employees that made this such a special event. During the short ceremony Monday evening, Donnie Beaver expressed their appreciation for all that the soldiers had given for each of us. Then in addition to hosting this great event he presented on behalf of and from the club members a generous donation to Project Healing Waters of over $20,000
