The winter breakup in Alaska involves a long process that sometimes takes four to six weeks so it allows plenty of time to prepare for the fishing season.  Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing sponsors an annual trying retreat to fill this time period.  This year a group of participants and volunteers who normally meet at the Wasilla Veteran’s Center gathered at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9365 in Wasilla to share their knowledge about effective flies, to tie flies for the coming fishing season, and to just share fishing stories.

Besides tying, the group enjoyed a wonderful meal including home smoked pulled pork made by Rick.

Everyone had a great time!!!  A special thanks goes out to the VFW Post #9365 for allowing us to use their facility as well as to all the volunteers and participants who helped to make this a great event.  We hope you enjoy some of the photos of the event below.
